/dev/zip is just a symbolic link to /dev/sda4. This link was created
by Mandrake by installing the system.

You are right of course! I just typed it wrong. This is what happens:

[root@thor working]# mount -t vfat /dev/sda4 /mnt/zip
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda4,
or too many mounted file systems
