Hello,
     In linux (as far as i know) there is no "shut down and reboot in
linux" option if you configured the box to start X on bootup.
If you wish to use the command line, try pressing CTRL+ALT+ F1 (through
F6). These are virtual consoles and will let you have
fun on the command line to your heart's content. To get back in X just
type in ALT-F7.  Hope this somehow solves your problem
