[newbie] display problem with X

hello,   I succesfully installed linux mandrake 7.0 on my system last week. But now I have a problem with X; the screen goes blank when X starts and runs (and it's not a screensaver). I tried cltrl-alt-fkey to switch to a text console, but whitout succes. What's going wrong here?   bye, sven.
