I was unable to install an acceptable Mandrake 7.0
system due to the misconfiguring of a serial mouse
as a ps/2 one when booting direct from the CD-Rom.

Using the patch provided under 'Last minute fixes'
from the official web-site, I tried re-installing
with boot disks containing either cdrom.img plus
patch or txt_boot.img plus patch. In neither case
was the patch accepted - an error message 'unknown
command patch' resulted.

There is nothing unusual about this box - all other
distros I've tried (except Corel, which is a real
'pig's ear'!) have installed without difficulty. I
have now installed what I want using text and cfdisk,
so am ready to try things out.

I would, however, like to know if anyone else has had
the same or a similar experience, and if so was an
explanation found? I'm relatively inexperienced but
know I used the patch in accordance with Mandrake's
instructions.

Regards, John.

P.S. It's the download version I have on CD.
