Y'all have been a great help in isolating my X probs - As it turns out, the
problem seems to be VMWare related (I neglected to mention that I was running in
a virtual machine because I thought it was irrelevent) - after several gyrations
and major snafu's, I ended up re-installing Linux completely, and it still won't
start X - The only thing left is VMWare... I'll re-install VMWare and let y'all
know what happens.
