you type:
wine prg.exe
on a command line to execute a windows program.

You go in the "file" menu, and choose settings, configuration, or
something like that. I can't exactly remember.

If you just want a full-screen command prompt, you hit ctrl+alt+F1 when
X is running.
If you don't want linux to automatically start X, you type :
linux init 3
at the lilo boot prompt.
