Hi Mike,
I'm using a Toshiba 490CDT. It's almost 2 years old. I have Caldera Open
Linux 2.2 (kernal 2.2.5) installed on it for almost a year now. It installed
easily, runs flawlessy. I own a copy of COL 2.3, but just haven't wanted to
upgrade. If it ain't broke, don't "fix" it. I use Mandrake 6.1 on my desktop
model.
Anyway, I use an external modem because the builtin is a winmodem. There are
numerous real modem PCMCIA cards however that could be used. There are
several manufactures now selling laptops w/linux preinstalled: Dell, IBM (I
think) and a new company called "tuxtops" (try www.tuxtops.com). There are
also several sites dedicated to linux on laptops (try searching w/google). I
use this thing everyday for probably about 8 hours a day. Hasn't crashed
once!!
HTH,
Mike S.
