Hi,
I am the person who originally posted this question. I missed the original answers
because of problems with my Mac beta version of AOL :-( so I repost it:
The problem I have is that I want to install Mandrake 7 on a laptop (LCD display).
I test the settings for X windows during the installation, but when I reboot and X
starts, the display kind of "melts" (yes, this is frightening to look at). The
reason: because I have a line to edit in some file (vga = 794) to have it work.
But I can't do that without a screen, right ? That's why I'd like to boot in the
console mode.
HOWEVER, I have never been able to obtain the dialog "do want to start with X ?"
(or something similar) to answer NO during the install. As soon, as I accept the
settings for X, the installation jumps to another item (I think I have a fraction
of a second to see the question, but I don't even see the dialog window).
So, of course I can't try the suggestion below, and after 3 reinstallation and 3
screen melting, I don't dare retrying anything.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance.
Xavier.
