I think you wound up stuck in some form of the
GNOME desktop. I got knocked over into that
with my install. I finally right clicked and got
a window up to change to "enlightment" which gives
you a choice of getting back into KDE. From there
I got into Utilities and chose the "desktop switcher"
I believe was the name, and made it my permanent
desktop. Don't know why it did this, but I found my
way out.
