    I identified my win as a Lucent(DSP) and from a link on the below site found that there are several manufactures that are writing drivers for Linux.  Lucent Tech. is one of them.  Suggest not buying another modem until you look into Linmodem.com.

Is there a rpm or program that is a work around for the winmodem problem?
 
I wish, I bought a new IBM Aptiva and it has a Winmodem too :-(
You could take a peak at this wonderfull page here....
 
 
it lists most modems and if they are compatable with Linux or not. I'm currently looking on the online auction eBay to see if I can find a good cheap one.
