lo is the local host interface. I think it is an IP address starting 172.
something. It is a special fixed IP address for this purpose.
It is used for local (internal) loopback for things like local host name
lookups. eg. to look-up the host name of your computer. It looks like your
computer is using the modem connection instead of the local host interface.
It could be you have changed the 172.x.x.x address for lo to something else
which I'm guessing will cause the lookups to be done to the modem connection
instead. The lookup fails because your ISP doesn't know your host name then your
computer tries again with the modem.
Do you have a ethernet network card installed as I don't understand the
reference to eth0 ? Are your stalls on the modem connection ?
