At this time the only USB devices that Linux supports are keyboard and
mouse. I am in the same boat as you are I have a USB DSL modem through Bell
South but the only way I can connect to the internet in Linux or BeOS is
with my Actiontec 56k modem (they are good modems and you can find them for
around $70 or less) but DSL has spoiled me especially for downloads so I
still do all my internet activities in Windows.
When you boot into Linux your cable connection may still be active but
you will have no way to access it.
