The easiest way to tell is if there is DOS support for the internal modem, ie: will work in DOS to dial out. The next easiest is to open the case...and look at it...if the modem has jumpers for IRQ/COM then it will work with Linux. If the modem card is tiny, half size...it is most likely a Winmodem.
