[newbie] Dual CPU's and freezing??

I am running a BP6 board with 2 500 celerons
the computer constantly just freezes while compiling or just at a commmand 
prompt and in X also.......
my vid card is a voodoo 3 but i had an old card in before and it sill 
froze........

any suggestions with what could be wrong???
