I installed Mandrake 7.0 on my P3-500 with all
sorts of goodies and somehow managed to get everything working except the ATAPI
Sony DVD-Rom drive. I found that the 2.2.14 kernel does not yet support
DVDs but I thought that it could still access it as a CD-Rom drive.
During boot-up, I get a status message that
it's an unknown device. The message spells out that it's an ATAPI drive
type 17 but it can't access it. The strange part is that this is the same
drive that I used to boot up the Mandrake Linux CD and run the install and
the install even added a mount entry for it
in /etc/fstab.
Any ideas on what might be going wrong
here?
Thanks in advance,
Glen
