Alan,
thanks for the tip though I found a much easier way to do this.  For anyone
else who needs to change their lilo config., either boot into KDE or open a
terminal window and as su type "klilo".  It is a GUI configuration tool for
lilo and is VERY easy to use.  You can change the option there to boot from
floppy, MBR or root partition.  I did this, installed my boot manager
software and voila, worked like a charm.
