[newbie] Any way back in?

I made a change to my  XF86Config file which I realized was a mistake when
I rebooted the system.

I had Lilo set to automatically take me into graphic mode (runlevel 5) and
now I can't read a thing and therefore can't repair my mistake.
.
Is there a way at the Lilo prompt to override that default and simply get
in at a log in command?
Or am I doomed to lose most recent files and re-install?
