Okay I have tried to install Mandrake repeatedly,
using every possible configuration I can think of. My video card (s3 sav4) uses
the svga x server. The install goes just dandy and I log in to x windows just
fine (from command prompt and using graphic log in). The problem occurs when I
try to log out from the x windows (and no it doesn't matter if I'm using KDE
gnome or both), the entire system crashes and I'm left staring at a black screen
unable to do anything but a hard reboot. This does not occur if I use the vga16
server but of course I don't particularly enjoy staring at 16 colors at a crappy
resolution all day. Any ideas why this is happening? I have checked the mandrake
errata and have found several mentionings of this problem but as of yet no word
on how to fix this from mandrake. I like mandrake much more than any other
distro I have tried but I of course can't reboot every time I want to change
users.
