... maybe because I have a Promise Ultra66 ??
I'm trying to install Mandrake 7.0 on a Gateway system under Win98.
Things go swimmingly until just before I get to choose the partitions.
The installer
seems to have gone past the SCSI driver phase (and keyboard choice), but
then
it asks me whether I have any SCSI devices.
If I say Yes, I get a list of drivers I don't recognise; if I say No, I
just get asked again!
(It reminds me of a jokey, "Are you satisfied with your salary?"
dialog...)
I've seen instructions on supplying parameters to the boot line, of the
form:
boot: linux ide2=0xmmmm,0xnnnn+2
where mmmm is the 1st value of the 1st I/O range, nnnnn is 1st of the
2nd.
However, I'm aiming for a dual boot system (have to keep Win98 to keep
the
other half happy), and in my naivety, I worry about accidentally
trashing Win98.
Is it safe to proceed as above? And how can I determine whether it
should be
ide0 or ide1 instead?
Thanks,
Brian Ritchie
