I had no problem when I installed Mandrake 7.0 (which doesn't help you) - is
your BIOS set for num lock on start up ? Have you got another OS installed (i.e
another Linux distro or Windows) which will enable you to check the above and
also whether your numlock key is working ? Is the keyboard type correctly set
(try XF86Setup - type it like that)
