Hi Thorsten,
I doubt that the 10Mbit hub is the problem. A decent 10/100 NIC wil switch
down to 10Mbit when that is what it sees on the line.
1. Did you set up an /etc/hosts file on all machines that identify the
machines over the network in Linux? Without that one a lot of problems can
arise. (In windoze you need a hosts file in the windoze directory if you
want to ping one from linux.)
2. Can the machines all ping themselves? (You state that the notebook can,
but can the desktops do that too?)
