You have a DNS server problem... At the console type "cat /etc/resolv.conf" You get back something like this... [root@router ~]# cat /etc/resolv.conf search mydomain.com nameserver 208.193.112.3 nameserver 208.193.112.4 Ok see the FIRST "nameserver"... well it's not working. What is happening is that your system is waiting for the first DNS server to respond. I never does, so the computer waits a predetermined amount of time before sending a request to the second server. The second server is working just fine, which is why you eventually see the web page... -JMS -----Original Message----- From: mike asopl [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Sunday, May 28, 2000 6:04 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [newbie] Slow download speed Hi, When I connect to the net and try to look up a web page it takes a long time to find what to download but once found it downloads at the right speed. Ping also takes a while to reply. And lynx will start looking for other websites eg. starts at www.netscape.com goes to www.netscape.com.com etc. Movies also play at a very slow rate, this might not be related. My system is a PII-266 with 64MB RAM and 100MB of Virtual Memory. Thanks. Angelfire for your free web-based e-mail. http://www.angelfire.com
