Dear friends:

I was downloading 2.1 Gig of Mandrake 7.1 from metalab.unc.edu this
afternoon. An absolutely smooth download when suddenly the download got
stuck on kpppload. I was not disconnected. Instead, Mandrake assumed
that the download was offered and proceeded to the rest of the
installation: "Wait for install", "select timezone," "configure
dial-up," "configure printer", "configure X-server" and, finally,
"Mandrake successfully installed!" That, with half the files still
waiting to be downloaded. Exactly midway through the installation (1:20
minutes of a 2:55 minute download). What's odd about this is that this
is EXACTLY what happened to me two night ago at rpmfind. Precisely at
the same point, that is, at kpppload. This time I made sure to turn off
my USRobotics modem (which had been inadvertenly left on earlier) while
I was downloading, of course, with ADSL.

There is something about the kpppload file that's screwing up the rest
of the downloading process. I am not talking about the rather rare case
where you are told "Error with installation of file xxx.mdk" OK or Skip
with Skip the default. That has happened once or twice. I clicked on
Skip, wrote down the name of the file for future reference, and the
download continued smoothly.

I wonder if anyone else has had this problem?

Thanks so very much.
