hi all,

In an effort to get my sound card 100% functional (an SBLive! card - WAV
files would not play), I installed the newest kernel and alsa from cooker,
and the latest sounddrake, hardDrake, detect and detect-devel from
HardDrake. I also downloaded the latest emu10k1 drivers from creativelabs.
After updating the kernel, then alsa, compile/install emu10K1, then detect,
then HardDrake and lastly sounddrake, I ran into an odd problem. The icon
for HardDrake does not show up anymore in DrakConf. There is just an empty
space where the icon was before. I can run sounddrake directly , but the
HardDrake looks flaky when executed . Has anyone encountered this with
DrakConf, and if so, how to get the icon back ?

As for the sound itself, I found out that I could now play WAV files using
kmedia, but system sounds from KDE would still not play. This made even
less sense. After test installing another distro in an unused partition, I
was nearly blasted out of my seat by the test sound volume. I booted back
into Mandrake to update grub and voila ! System sounds were working. I
don't really know why. As I am experimenting on my machine, its not
unfeasible that I will do another install at some point in time - would be
nice if I didn't have to go though so many hoops to get a supported card
functioning.

But, if anyone can help with the disappearing icon in HardDrake it would be
appreciated.

cheers,
philomena
