In Linux - you can leave the IP and netmask address blank; you must enter the
router's IP for the gateway.you can leave the primaryname.domain as
localhost.localdomain.
I also have a Linksys router attached to a cable modem and although my ISP uses
dhcp I was unable to get the router to work when using DHCP from ISP in the
router setup; I finally got it to work by letting the router assume that I had a
static IP and entering all the necessary items during the router setup( you can
get all this info, i.e., host name, domain name ip address, gateway, dns ip if
you're also using Windows by using 'winipcfg'for Win98 or 'ipconfig' for WinNT at
a DOS prompt )
Then i have my router as a DHCP server.
As I sit here thinking about it maybe it would work if , in the router setup you
indicated the ISP as DHCP and then assign each PC an IP address and netmask using
the router's IP as a gateway (of course). I've never tried it that way though.
Good Luck
