Do you have your machine set up as a masquerading firewall? If you have set
up ipchains, have you also added the rules for masquing? Are you
accidentally blocking the internal NIC?
I'm not sure what you mean by: "the link light on my hub does NOT light up
from eth1." are you connecting the cable modem directly to eth1? Or do you
mean that packets sent from a box on the internal network don't make the
cable modem lights dance with pretty colours?
If you are sharing the modem with machines on an internal network, you have
to set up you machine to masquerade the internal IPs through either ipchains
or ipmasqadm. I have been using pmfirewall for this purpose, and it works
beautifully (for me).
