Hi Chris,
I beleave it is all down to your systems speed. If you have a low processor
speed some desktops which are bulky like KDE can be rather slow. However
others such as Blackbox or, Pauls favourite, XFCE are smaller and run much
quicker. Others such as FVVM, are also small and nippy on slow systems as
well as being one of the first GUI's to be shipped with Linux.
