Gordon
Cooker is the development portion of Mandrake and is available through
various FTP mirrors.
Why do you think that your Epson is a winprinter?
That being asked I will recount my experiance with Epson.
Last week my local OfficeDepot had the Epson 760 on sale for $99 and in
addition they were offering a $30 mail-in rebate. I did not have a printer
on my Linux machine, I had done some research and found that the 760 would
work in linux, so I felt that a $69 color printer was too good of a deal to
pass up.
The 760 can be connectted either via parrallel port or USB. Running 7.1 I
choose the parrallel connection. When I restarted 7.1 the printer was not
detected when the system checked for new hardware so I used
DrakkeConfig/Printer. The printer still was not detected. I went through the
motions anyway and in turn tried each Epson printers listed as well as most
of the Hp. None would work
I then did the same thing that I did when I added a USB Zip drive. I
reinstalled 7.1. I know you should not do this and you are not supposed to
have to do this but it does work.
My system is set-up with a smallish / partion a large /usr partition and
a small /home partition. When I reinstalled I only reformatted the /
partition so installing the 4CD 7.1 in Development mode only took 30min and
during the installation the printer was detected in Printer Set-Up and works
fine witn the Epson Color Plus driver.
I have found in Linux that there are many ways to work around and though a
problem and not all of them are the "proper" way.
Charles :-)
