thanks but i found a strange thing, i had to reboot after setting
wine.conf as i quoted it for an unrelated reason and then i found that
unreal started (that's all it did but the cd was recognised) i was
surprised because this is so windows! perhaps the reboot acomplished
something that could have been done by itself but i can't guess what,
any way as to playing unreal in wine - forget it, you were right, the
error messages wouldn't go amiss in an episode of startrek! i'll just
reboot when i need to frag something
