Here are some excerpts from a report by John Spooner of ZDNet about the
installation of Windows ME. His are in quotes:

"The Windows Me install wasn't terribly traumatic, but it wasn't exactly fun
either. It took me about six hours including time to download drivers. Two
things helped out a lot. First, the Win95 install was a clean install,
meaning the recovery software reformatted the ThinkPad's hard drive and then
re-installed Windows 95. Second, I recently installed IBM's latest BIOS
software for the ThinkPad 600. That BIOS is tuned for Windows 98.
Despite the new look and feel, Windows Me includes almost nothing, including
the new Windows MediaPlayer 7, that users can't download and install on a
Windows 98 or Windows 98 Second Edition PC. I see no need to install the new
OS on my own Pavilion desktop at home or my ThinkPad 570 work PC.
The bottom line, here, is that Microsoft has reached the point of diminishing returns
with its Windows 9.x
Operating systems. If you want to buy the new OS and install it for fun,
like I did, then more power to you. But you're not going to get much more
than a PC that boots up more quickly. And that's a good thing -- because
you'll be rebooting a lot. "

That seems to be the consensus about Win ME, that it is slower that 98, and
isn't a necessary upgrade.....and yes Internet Exploder comes intergrated, for
all those fans of Explorer.exe crashes that require you to reboot more than
once daily.

I know that a lot of you hate the Microsoft bashing, but when the hell is the
public going to wake up and realize that the joke is on us.
