Greetings. I am joining the ranks of others who are having problems with the 3com 3c905b cyclone 100 base TX card.on Mandrake 7.1.
Symptoms:
- eth0 detected fine at bootup
- unable to successfully ping (network unreachable) or connect to any web site (unable to locate server)
- my windows partition works fine with this card
- it is connected to a hub which sees it as a 100 base card.
- if I run ifup, I get
SIOCSIFFLAGS: resource temporarilly busy
SIOCADDRT: network is down
SIOCADDRT: network is unreachable
What I've checked:
- /proc/ioports: 9800-987f, no overlap
- /proc/interrupts: not listed, even after multiple connection attempts
- /etc/conf/modules: "alias eth0 3c59x"
- harddrak thinks it is properly installed, configured
Any suggestions on what to look at?
It seems like the hardware is detected properly. I wonder if there is some conflict with another device, or something along those lines. My linuxconf settings should be correct. I have a static IP, and have entered the proper settings.
If I can't figure this out, I might try another distro and see if that solves anything.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I want to get this done so I can work under Linux and perhaps get some studying done ;)
