I've reinstalled the system at least 5 times already. I tried the smallest
thing that could work, that is an LCD monitor of 640x480 with 256 colors and
the chipset being the Rage Mobility P which is the one in the laptop. When I
go to test the screen becomes white with lines crossing it and that's it. If
I wait it does not go back to the previous setting so I can try another
resolution. The only option is then to restart the computer, delete the
partitions and start all over again. I did send a message to Gateway asking
for the range of horizontal and vertical sync as suggested but no answer has
come yet. In the manuals or the web there is no information about that
detail.

Anyone has any other suggestions I might try? Any links to more information?
I think once I saw a page that had the ranges of sync for many monitors but
I could not find that again. Is there any one out there with this laptop and
a linux distribution with it? Or has any one a suggestion for posting on
another newsgroup? I would like to post on alt.os.linux and
alt.os.linux.mandrake, but the free server I'm connecting to does not allow
me to post.
