In a terminal, type "dmesg" w/o the quotes.
Now scroll through the fairly lengthy mesage and you'll probably find that
your hard drive IS running at 66 and your CDROM (likely) at 33. I get the
same initial message, but dmesg reveals the 66 (used to be 100, but was a
little unstable so I switched down to 66 and all is well).
