you can ask your provider for a static ip so you wont have to use dhcp- but your dhcp should work ok.
Try unplugging your cable modem for say 30 sec and plugg it back in.
restart your linux box.
My cable modem gets a brain glitch and dhcp dies once in a great while.
If you unplug it, it will refreash everything.
and dhcp works agian....
