I decided to try once more to burn a CD using X-CD-Roast, Gnome Toaster and
Gcombust (all frontends for cdrecord). I noticed that everytime I tried to
burn my FIFO buffer would be 100% full until the last 45 seconds of the burn,
where it would quickly empty, accompanied by intense hard drive thrashing. I
figured that if I burned less data onto the CD I may pass. Before, I tried
burning the ISO of Mandrake 7.2 CD 1 (649MB) and 645MB of data (no ISO).
These tests worked fine in Nero 5 in Windows 2000, but I only got cdrecord
errors (the same error every time) in Linux. The most I have been able to
burn on a CD in Linux has been 643MB (raw data, not an ISO). I know that this
is darn close to a CDs full capacity, but it still means that I am unable to
burn things like the first Mandrake 7.2 ISO in Linux. Could this be a problem
with my hardware, or could it be that cdrecord is not good at burning close
to a CD's full capacity?
