What sound card do you have?
Give us the brand and model of the rest of your hardware while your at it;
quck answer (depending on what hardware is in your machine this may or may
not work)
from a terminal
run sndconfig
answer the questions.
if you hear sound, it's working
if you don't hear sound contact the list about this again.
