Of course. The icon to mount the device (open a dir-view) relies on the
supermount being active. And since you kicked that out you can't use that
icon anymore.

That's where you want to be. You should write 2 scripts, one to mount the
flop, one to unmount it, and create links to them on your desktop, if you
use a desktop manager that does icons. By the sound of it you use KDE, so
that should not be too difficult.
