Ray,
to tell you the truth Netscape has no idea whatsoever where your modem is
and even if it did it wouldn't know it if it fell over it. All those
programs care about is, is there an active tcp/ip connection and can I
send and recieve data over that connection.
It seems odd that you would be able to use your browser successfully but
your FTP software can't seem to get anywhere. Are you getting any sort of
errors? Have you tried using an FTP command line program yet? Many times
you will get very meaningful error messages when using one of these.
