it's called security. If you were able to do what you're attempting to do
without your machine putting up a fuss about it anyone could get into your
machine and gain root access with a little effort. this isn't something
you should be upset about or wanting to change. that is as long as you
wish your machine to remain as secure as possible. If you're able to log
on to your machine and then (su) to become root that's really only a few
extra steps.

If you REALLY want to do what you're describing there is a way that you
can make this doable. It was discussed here on the newbie list a week or
so ago. You may want to check the list archives for that thread. It will
tell you how to accomplish what you're talking about.
