One of my servers sometimes hangs or goes into a reboot loop when trying
to reinit the video card on reboot. Am still fighting this somewhat but
upgrading the video cards bios helped quite a bit. Also have seen in
Mandrake 7.1 a few times where services refused to die properly so the
system wouldn't shutdown.. just froze before doing any reboot of the
hardware and kind of spun it's wheels. Updating to the newest vers of each
relevant package seems to have fixed it. This is a highly powerful box
with some unusual hardware issues that you might not have but maybe
something similar is happening to you.
