I spent ages almost a year ago trying to find a good browser for Linux.
Netscape 4.5 was annoyingly unstable, but in the end I had to admit
defeat. Netscape *was* the best browser for Linux then.
Today, Linux has a whole range of browsers to choose from. Netscape 4.76 is
now quite stable (your own milage may vary), and is a must-have whether you
use it or not simply because it is a standard browser. Konqueror
(www.konqueror.org), a core part of KDE2, is rock solid for most people (I on
the other hand had to get an alpha version of KDE 2.1 to have any stablity).
I have not had any success with running Netscape 6, but I quite like Mozilla
M18 (www.mozilla.org), upon which Netscape 6 is based (well actually it's
based on a CVS version of Mozilla that's a bit newer than M18, but let's not
get into technicalities...). If you want something lean 'n mean, Galeon
(galeon.sourceforge.net) can fit the bill. It uses the Mozilla M18 Gekko HTML
rendering engine, but it doesn't have Mozilla's bloat. Opera 4 beta 3
(www.opera.com) for Linux is out, but it has a few irratating bugs (try
right-clicking on a link) that spoil an otherwise good commercial product.
While it's almost ready for prime time, I personally prefer beta 2 over beta
3. I'm not sure if Opera still have it available on their website.
My suggestion to you is to try them all out. I personally have them all
installed, as they each have their own strengths and weaknesses.
