Hi,
I am trying to install Mandrake 7.2 in the computer of a friend of mine
(I hope he will be sooner a linuxer, but I have found two problems and
I need some help:
a) The sound card is a Vortex 1; I have downloaded the unofficial
driver from sourceforge. I have unpacked and I have did also the make
(make install20); the modul is installed, but not well charged, It
gives me an error of the type: the sound card is busy, a problem of IRQ
or IO.....). I know that the irq sould be 09 and the io sould be 0x220,
but I don't know how to force the kernel to accept it; using modprobe
or insmod they doesn't accept any options like irq=09 or io=0x220, the
parametres are not accepted. Any ideas?
b) The video card is a NVIDIA RIVA 128; in the installation it is
accepted the XFree acceleration and, for example, the program chromium
runs OK, but using tuxracer the colour is not good (in fact is I use
the w key I can see the cars, but in color everything is blue); similar
problem, the pinguin is absolutely white. If I put down the
acceleration I can see the colours, but all these programs don't run.
Using Harddrake it gives me an extrange message about that the 3d
acceleration is only possible with XFree 3.86 and not with 4.01!!!!.
Any ideas will be welcomed.
Note: I have goods also, I have reached to work in my computer every
thing:
Epson scanner Perfection 1200 Usb working!!!
Epson printer Stylus Color 760 working under CUP until 1400 ppi!!!
UDF system files working, I have even seen a DVD movie!!!!
Voodoo3 3000 with acceleration (nice Quake III, tuxkart, tuxracer,
chromium)!!!
Internet with a external zoltrix modem
KDE 2.0, with just few packages giving errors
Creative lab 128 PCI running fine, eaven midi, mp3....!!!
tv video card, just I can not compile the xavdecode, but I think it is
a problem with the new files used by XFree 4.01??)
Ethernet card to conect my laptop (a Toshiba Satellite 4090CDX using
also Mandrake 7.2)
I am very happy!!!
And I would like my friend to be also very happy using linux in his
computer and became one more linux user. So, please, help me!!!!
