Hi there,
Unfortunately, my computer came with a conexant win modem with a via
chipset/ chaintech main board. Harddrake has apparently detected my sound
apparatus and appears to work a bit, however very quietly. It chose the via
technology option from the list. I am getting in contact with my computer
builder to find out exactly what sound apparatus is installed - just in
case. Meanwhile I am fiddling about trying to increase the volume on the
thing.
More importantly, I am thinking about buying an external modem so that I can
communicate from within my Linux environment. I know that there are lists of
compatible hardware around, but I would be most keen to hear from anyone who
has bought an external or similar modem that was dead easy to configure with
hard drake and works really well.
On another note. I initially used system commander 2000 to try and manage a
partition in preparation for Red Hat. It was terrible and I thought a waste
of money. Diskdrake is way better so far. I am currently running Mandrake
7.2.
Many thanks and apologies for being long-winded.
John
