Most likely you need to enter the DNS server addresses. That is picked up by DHCP in Win9x, but if I'm not mistaken, Linux needs to have it specified. If you can't ping www.yahoo.com, but you *can* ping 204.71.200.74 (the address that www.yahoo.com resolves to on my box) then that's the issue.
