I think that WordPerfect writes directly to /dev/lp0 internally. If that
doesn't work, there's no printer.

When you issue lpq, what does that tell?

[paul@internet paul]$ lpq
lp is ready

What is the default destination on your system?
[paul@internet paul]$ lpstat -d
system default destination: lp

Hope you can get things going!
