Thanks for all the info.  Turns out it was because I chose the correct 
printer during install but with the GIMP-EN tag.  So during yet another 
reinstall, I chose the other BJC-3000 and it prints the correct size now.  I 
guess GIMP is buggy or something, I don't know.  So if anyone else 
experiences this oddity, remember try not to use the GIMP enabled 
drivers/filters/whatever it is.
