Hi,

my system has only scsi harddrives. When I boot from cdrom (ide) to perform the installation everything runs fine. However, in the instalationprocess (7.1 for Alpha) there is no opportunity to make a bootdisk.

my problem: when i boot the system : kernel panic: unable to mount root fs.

i guess this is because the installer has installed the scsi module for the kernel and so the kernel has no scsi support in it. This results in a booting kernel who is unable to mount the root (=scsi) partition, because the scsi module is on the unreadable scsi drive.
giving root=/dev/sda1 doesn't work, that' s the reason for my guess.

can anybody help? it is for an alpha station, so it is hard for me to compile a new kernel on an intel processor.

thx

Pieter
