[newbie] xscanimage

The question is :  How do you get xscanimage to show up in the Gimp? I have 
tried opening the man on xscanimage and the gimp. I don't get anything. Maybe 
I'm doing it wrong?  So, I am still struggling to get a scanner functioning. 
xtns in my gimp show nothing of "acquire image".  I'm not having a lot of 
success with 7.2 this week.  Somebody throw me a line, please?
