About the time the tech press was saying that the new Pentium 4 would have
trouble running under linux (early December), this was happening:

A certification of Mandrake for the HP Vectra VL800.

Now it is not unusual for Linux-Mandrake 7.2 to certify on a new machine out
of the box with no problems, but here is the detail on the machine:

Do my eyes deceive me or do you see a Pentium 4 as the processor as well?

So where are all the industry pundits who claimed that linux would have
trouble with the Pentium 4? I hope I don't find any of them for a while.

In reality, there are some programs that need Processor ID. You will find
kernel-2.2.17-21mdk.2.i586.rpm in /Mandrake-devel/unsupported on your
favorite mirror. It offers a valid processor ID to those programs so the P4
will run them properly.

Also, Deno has written a nice article about the P4 on www.mandrakeforum.com.
