        Hi,

        I don't know much either, but I can tell you what I know.
A shell is the command interpreter people use to tell Linux to do things.
When we see the "shell" prompt:

[fabian@axolotl fabian]$

we know the system is waiting for the user to tell it to do
something. Different shells have different sets of commands, but share
many of them as well. I guess some
shells are better than others to acomplish certain tasks. Linux-Mandrake
has several shells a user can pick up from as his/her defaul shell. You
can see the bash a user has in Userdrake --> Options --> Preferences; or
by typing "echo $SHELL" without the quotes in the "shell prompt". The Korn
shell is one out of the many shells there are, but is not included --as
far as I know-- in the Mandrake 7.2 installation. I recall reading that
for know the most of the linux distributions include the Bash shell as the
default one.
        This is not much information, but you can read that in any book
about Linux or Unix. Greetings from Mexico.
